As previously reported, Lexus will unveil a new concept at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show that aims to compete with the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series in Europe. The new model - rumored to carry either the "BS" or "CS" nameplate - won't be built atop the Lexus HS250h's architecture, but it will utilize the gas-electric hybrid's 2.4-liter four-cylinder to deliver around 185 hp to the front wheels. Although the model we'll see in Frankfurt is technically a concept, according to Lexus insiders, it will be "a 90% match for the real thing" which will debut in production form at the Geneva Motor Show in March, with sales beginning in Europe in the fall of 2010.

Mazda RX-8 R3 - Click above for a high-res image gallery Several reports have surfaced over the past day indicating that Mazda is prepping a thoroughly redesigned RX-8 for display at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. However, according to Mazda USA's director of communications, Jeremy Barnes, the next rotary-powered coupe won't debut for at least a few more years. Since Mazda just released the facelifted RX-8 last year, a full-scale overhaul seems a bit hasty, particularly considering the four-door coupe's niche status. If something does arrive in Frankfurt, it's likely a region-specific model, packing some additional features (new Recaro seats and infotainment package, say) akin to the recently released R3. As for the next RX-series from Mazda, the automaker is hard at work on the all-new 16X rotary engine, and in that case, a revised Wankel rotary is expected to power the updated model, which is not expected until around 2011 or 2012.

As you all must have noticed by now, Autoblog 4.0 is here. It's the fourth revision of the site since it launched in July 2004 and offers more features for finding the content you want without compromising the flow of posts you need to get through the day. Since this project was like stuffing a supercharged V8 where a turbo four-cylinder once resided, there are bound to be issues with the site for the some people, and we're working hard to correct them as quickly as possible. As for the commenting system that didn't get attention this time around, we have people hard at work developing a new system that will debut in the near future. In the meantime, the short fix that corrects most issues is performing a hard refresh of your browser. Simply hold down your Shift key and click Refresh on your browser to reset the site. If that doesn't do the trick, send us a note at feedback@autoblog.com and explain your issue, let us know what browser and version you're using, and include a screen shot of the issue if possible. You can also take a tour of all the new features by clicking here. Thanks for the great response so far, and we've got more big news coming next week!

Following the release of a couple of teaser images showing what was tipped as an upcoming new model from Bugatti, the automotive press has been all up in a frenzy speculating over the form that the highly anticipated new car will take. But while the conclusion was that the car would be unveiled to the public at the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show, new reports suggest otherwise. According to sources inside the company, Bugatti will indeed be showing a new concept in Frankfurt - but only to a select group of customers to gauge reactions among its exclusive clientele. And while it may seem like a waste to bring a concept car to the show only to keep it hidden, it may be indicative that the car itself won't be ready for a full public unveiling, for which we'll apparently have to wait a little longer. In the meantime, Bugatti will reportedly be back up to its old tricks with - yep, you guessed it - yet another special edition Veyron at the upcoming Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where sister company Bentley will be unveiling its own new super-luxe saloon. Stay tuned for more.

Further evidence that Bugatti has a new product planned for its centenary celebration at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September comes by way of PistonHeads in the U.K., which offers up this image of the rear of what may or may not be a vehicle called the Bordeaux. Of course, before we pull this one completely out of the rumormill file, we'll need either official word from Bugatti or an actual picture of the party invitation that this car supposedly graces. Assuming for a moment that this image is the real deal, we see some interesting tidbits from which to glean tantalizing details of the future car. While we're still not certain if this could be the World's Ultimate Sedan, some bizarre sort of shooting brake, or even a supercar to replace to Veyron (or none of the above), but the thin strip of brake light right down the center reminds us of the dorsal seam from the iconic Type 57SC Atlantic - certainly a fitting way to recollect the French automaker's first 100 years in business. Note, too, the inclusion of eight rather obvious exhaust tips at the rear of the car, which reinforces speculation that this vehicle will be powered by Bugatti's current 8.0-liter W16 powerplant. If that's the case, we'd also expect the Veyron's all-wheel-drive system and active aerodynamics to keep the ridiculously powerful car from going airborne. As much fun as it is to speculate, we look forward to getting official word from Bugatti as Frankfurt draws nearer.

MINI Crossover Concept - Click above for a high-res image gallery Thanks to a few eagle-eyed BMW fans with a handy penchant for tracking trademark filings, we may know the name of the upcoming and oft-spied Mini crossover: the Countryman. If this is indeed the case, the badge would go hand-in-hand with BMW's current naming convention for its Mini line, which includes the extended-length Clubman in addition to the standard Cooper and convertible. We're expecting the new CUV to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in production form as a 2011 model. Interestingly, BMW also trademarked the name ActiveE, which some are speculating will be the moniker applied to the automaker's upcoming electric vehicles as it matches up quite nicely with BMW's present ActiveHybrid series. Last year, the German automaker reserved the name eDrive, and it seems the two labels could somehow be paired together as part of the company's Project I initiative.

Could a new über-sedan be in the offing from Bugatti? Rumors of a more practical model from the Volkswagen-owned supercar maker have been swirling ever since the Veyron was introduced back in 2005, and the idea has merit since it would likely allow VW to recoup some of the massive development costs that surely went into creating the Veyron. Now, a lone still shot from what is supposedly an invitation to a party celebrating the automaker's first 100 years in business has the interwebs speculating that a super sedan is on its way to an unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Previous rumors indicated that a new Bugatti sedan could share a platform with the next Bentley flagship - which we know is to debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance next month - and use the same all-wheel drive system and 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine as the Veyron. At this point, a Bugatti sedan is nothing but speculation and it's equally as possible that we could see either a successor the the four-year-old Veyron in Frankfurt - or nothing at all. In any case, we'll keep our eyes and ears open for more details in the coming months.

2010 BMW 5 Series - Click above for a high-res image gallery The 2010 BMW 5 Series is due to hit the market early next year and these latest spy shots are a clear, if predictable, indication of what styling changes are on their way. The front fascia adopts the upright nose, elongated twin-kidney grille and contoured headlamps (Dame Edna be gone!) originally shown on the 2009 7 Series, while the rear takes on a set of similarly styled tail lamps and looses the Bangled rump we've come to know and loathe. The overall effect should tie in well with the recently revealed BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo, and expect similar powertrain options to be available, including the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8, 3.0-liter V6 and a host of diesel options offered abroad. Transmission choices will likely include a six-speed manual and an all-new eight-speed gearbox supplied by ZF. And then there's the 2011 M5 to look forward to. Expect the next M-fettled 5er to pack the X6 M/X5 M's tweaked twin-turbo'd eight nestled within a revised chassis sure to use considerable amounts of aluminum and carbon fiber. It's obvious that development of the next 5 is well underway, and we wouldn't be surprised to see it unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September, with the M5 appearing later in 2010.

2011 Porsche 911 - Click above for a high-res image gallery of spy shots With every iteration of the 911, Porsche makes incremental improvements to its iconic sports car and naturally, the next generation will be no exception. This latest 911 prototype was caught at the Nurburgring sporting 997 sheetmetal, but it's what's on top and out back that deserves note. A double-bubble roof panel has been fitted, while underneath the rear camouflage is a sizeable wing and additional ducting. Look closely and you'll see a small sill at the base of the rear windscreen that's assumed to be feeding the rear-mounted flat-six - likely necessary keep the boxer cool while Porsche engineers figure out how the new contoured roof affects aerodynamics. If previous reports are to be believed, we can expect the next 911 to debut sometime in 2010, but we wouldn't rule out an appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.
