Tyler Walker Crash

Even a racing driver isn't going beat the concerted efforts of the police. That was former NASCAR driver Tyler Walker's lesson when he was arrested on January 30, 2013, after a high-speed chase over three states. The dash cam video from several officers involved has made it online thanks to a Freedom of Information Act Request to the Utah Highway Patrol, according to Autoweek.

The chase finally stopped when Walker attempted to leave the highway by going the wrong way on an entrance ramp. He attempted to flee on foot but was tackled by police. His charges included evading arrest, driving under the influence, open container, liquor license violation and possession of amphetamines, marijuana and narcotic equipment. He pleaded not guilty and is still awaiting his trial, according to Autoweek.

Walker raced in several NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series races from 2003 to 2007, but in May 2007 he was suspended for violating the sport's substance abuse policy. He also raced extensively in the World of Outlaws dirt track series. The video edits the hour-and-a-half-long chase down to 11 minutes and switches among officers several times. Scroll down to watch it, but warning: There's some explicit language.

Iowa policeman barely missed by flying car

Flying Truck

Sometimes in life we just get lucky, and that is exactly what two Iowa police are experiencing after narrowly escaping a pickup truck that careened off the road. The whole incident was caught on one of the officer's dashboard-mounted cameras.

According to ABC News, the crash happened on March 17 on I-80 when the truck slowed because the cops were on the side of the road. A following tractor-trailer rammed into the back of the pickup and knocked it out of control. It just clipped the forward officer's cruiser before flying up onto the berm.

One officer suffered minor industries, according to ABC, but it pales in comparison to what could have happened if the truck had been slightly farther up the road. Scroll down to watch the video and witness the close call.

LAPD now on patrol with its own Lamborghini Gallardo

LAPD Lamborghini Gallardo

Last year, the Dubai Police made news by purchasing a string of supercars to act as patrol vehicles around the city. Apparently, a generous family in Los Angeles thought that the LAPD needed to keep up with the Joneses, because they recently donated use of their Lamborghini Gallardo. Unfortunately, you won't be seeing the Italian coupe in any high-speed chases, as it's being used exclusively for display at charity events.

The Lamborghini has arrived courtesy of Nathalie and Travis Marg, proprietors of telecommunications contractor Light Source 1 Inc. They approached the force with the idea to use the supercar because "they admire what the LAPD does for the community," said LAPD Sergeant Frank Preciado to Autoblog. Galpin Auto Sports was tapped for the custom wrap to make it look like a police car, and according to Sgt. Preciado, the police force can use the car indefinitely. Importantly, the LAPD says no tax dollars have been expended on this vehicle.

The LAPD Gallardo will be on display to the public at Los Angeles County Air Show on March 21-22, and Sgt. Preciado said the police have already received many inquiries to display the car at other events. The police have even set up dedicated Twitter and Instagram accounts to promote its newest addition. Too bad it won't be catching speeders anytime soon.

American LaFrance fire engines shuttered after more than 180 years

We often talk about companies like Ford and Mercedes-Benz that have their automotive roots over 100 years in the past, but those aren't the only old-timers in the industry. One of the oldest had been American LaFrance, a company that had been building firefighting vehicles for over 180 years. Notice that we said 'had been...'

The company's roots go back to 1832 as a firefighting equipment maker. It began building steam-powered, horse-drawn fire engines in the era before the internal combustion engine and merged with LaFrance in 1903 to become one of America's leading fire engine builders. Unfortunately, the 21st century was not been so kind to the company. Freightliner bought it in 1995 and production was moved from North Carolina to South Carolina, but it was sold again in December 2005. After declaring and emerging from bankruptcy in 2008, American LaFrance moved to a smaller factory in Moncks Corner, SC, in 2013.

American LaFrance's previous owner, Patriarch Partners, issued a statement to South Carolina newspaper The Post and Courier that said: "Unfortunately, the company's unexpected current financial condition requires the discontinuation of operations in these locations at this time and these facilities are not expected to reopen." Autoblog attempted to call American LaFrance for comment, but its listed phone number no longer works. It seems that the brand's flame has finally been extinguished.

Gibbs Humdinga amphibious truck

While the flying car (at least as we dream of it) is likely never going happen, the floating car is a problem that has been solved for decades. In fact, Gibbs Amphibians may have taken the concept farther than anyone else in history with its line amphibious cars, trucks and quads. However, its vehicles don't just have to be for fun - they can also help people. At least, that's what Gibbs thinks - the small automaker has licensed its Humdinga amphibious truck to Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd to assist in future tsunami and flood relief in the region.

The 12-year deal allows the Asian company to build and sell the Humdinga in Southeast Asia, and it plans to use them for light-duty patrol, rapid response. emergency rescues, medical evacuations and the transport of emergency supplies and personnel. The Humdinga is a 21.5-foot long, all-terrain, amphibious truck that can carry up to seven people or 1,653 pounds of payload. It is powered by a turbocharged diesel engine, and can reach up to 30 miles per hour on water and highway speeds on land. It can retract its wheels up into the body in seconds and uses water-jet propulsion to be safe in shallow water. On the road, it has all-wheel drive and disc brakes.

Gibbs has patents on the technology to make its vehicles watertight with retractable wheels and full suspension, and is working on more deals to sign licensing agreements with more manufacturers in the next several years. The amphibious trucks seem like a great solution to flood relief. Scroll down to learn more about the deal and see the Humdinga in action.

2015 Chevy Tahoe PPV

As lovers of fast driving, we at Autoblog normally try to stay as far away from police pursuit vehicles as possible. But in reality, the way automakers design purpose-built police vehicles is indeed worth a closer look. If we're going to task the boys and gals in blue with keeping us safe on the streets, they need to be given the best tools possible for the job. And while a lot of that comes down to their own equipment, the police cruisers themselves play a hugely important role in all of this.

Chevrolet has long offered police vehicles, from Caprice old and new, to various Impala and Tahoe models. That last one is a particularly newsy topic right now, as Chevy recently unveiled its all-new 2015 Tahoe SUV (complete with its Suburban, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade siblings). At last week's Chicago Auto Show, Chevy went a step further, giving us a closer look at Tahoe's brand-new police-spec version.

In the video below, Autoblog West Coast Editor Michael Harley talks with Chevy product specialist Scott Vandekerckhove, who gives a full tour of what's new with the Bowtie's biggest cruiser. We check out what's up front, under the hood, and out back. Scroll down for the full video, and just hope it's the closest you'll actually ever have to get to sitting inside one of these bad boys.

Firefighter detained and cuffed by California Highway Patrol

An accident involving a car that had overturned while heading northbound on I-805 in Chula Vista, CA, took a strange turn on Tuesday when news cameras on the scene captured a police officer placing handcuffs on a firefighter and putting him in the back of a California Highway Patrol cruiser. Reports indicate that the officer had asked the firefighter to move his fire engine from the No. 1 lane on southbound I-805, and he refused.

A local news team was there to capture the firefighter's cuffing and detention and reports he was released about a half hour later. No formal statement has emerged from either the CHP or Chula Vista Fire Department, but both sides reportedly met yesterday to discuss the incident.

Hopefully they can work it out with a charity softball game or something - anything that convinces the public again our first responders are more interested in working together to help us at the scene of an emergency than arguing over parking. Scroll down to watch a video of the incident yourself.

Police wedding proposal

For many people being pulled over by the police is among the most stressful situations possible and would be one of the worst times for a marriage proposal. But that was exactly what Matt Van Vliet did to his girlfriend, Samantha Labo.

In college, Labo and Van Vliet were arrested during a police raid at a party with suspected underage drinking. They both passed the breathalyzer test and met while waiting to get picked up. When they were back at college for a reunion, Van Vliet thought it would be a perfect time to propose. He went to the policeman who arrested them and asked if he would do it again. We applaud his sense of irony.

Scroll down to watch the whole arresting proposal from the police dashcam footage.

Auctions: eBay Find of the Day: S.H.I.E.L.D. Acura TL from The Avengers

Acura TL SHIELD police car from The Avengers movie

If you're a fan of The Avengers from 2012, then here's your chance at owning a piece of movie memorabilia. Following last year's auction of a Acura MDX from that movie, Scottsdale Motor Company is now listing another S.H.I.E.L.D. vehicle on eBay Motors - this time a 2012 Acura TL.

Unlike the MDX, this TL has fewer modifications limited to the custom front push bumper, matte-black paint job and the various LED emergency lights in the back window and in the front bumper, while the inside appears untouched with the exception of small auxiliary switches. The current auction price of this car $32,900 - compared to the $41,535 MSRP of a new TL with Advance Package back in 2012 - but this is a steal compared to the movie-prop Monroney that comes with the car listing the "palladium-powered" sedan at $227,085. The seller says that this car was only one of five built for the movie, and it only has 1,111 miles on the odometer.

After the S.H.I.E.L.D. MDX and TL, we can only hope that Scottsdale Motor Company will offer Tony Stark's Acura NSX Roadster as its next movie car auction.

Official: McLaren MP4-12C joins Dubai police force

Dubai Police McLaren MP4-12C

If there's one country in the world that can afford to buy exotic supercars, what would it be? If you answered Dubai, you are correct, habibi. Because that Gulf emirate has been buying up some of the highest of high-performance machinery to patrol its streets and sand-swept highways.

The Dubai police force recently acquired a Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari FF and a 700-horsepower Brabus-tuned Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. Heck, even the fire department has a new Corvette Stingray at its disposal. Now the oil-rich highway patrol has added a McLaren MP4-12C to its motor pool, which may seem like overkill. Still, considering all the Veyrons and Koenigseggs registered in the UAE, it may still not be enough to chase down speeders.
