For the past decade, Cadillac has been searching for ways to breathe life into its lineup of luxury sedans and SUVs. While it has enjoyed recent success with the CTS and Escalade, brand perception still skews older and stuffier than Caddy's German and Japanese counterparts.
Can the electrified Cadillac ELR shock the system and return a pulse to this storied American brand, or will the Chevy Volt-based plug-in price itself out of the market?
Host Jonathon Buckley heads to Los Angeles to test the 2014 Cadillac ELR.
What does the three-wheeled, super-efficient Elio have in common with a gas-guzzling Hummer? Both use a standard internal combustion engine in favor of a hybrid or electric setup, and the Elio will be built in the same Louisiana factory that once hummed to the tune of H3 production. The similarities end there.
The Elio is a motorized trike that seats two and is capable of achieving 84 miles per gallon thanks to its lightweight, aerodynamic design and three-cylinder, 0.9-liter gas engine. If you're deterred by the Elio's small footprint, slight seating capacity and modest performance, keep in mind its projected retail price of under $7,000 and the little three-wheeler starts to make a bit more sense.
Translogic host Jonathon Buckley heads to Ontario, California to test the prototype Elio and meet its maker, Paul Elio.
The 2015 BMW i8 is the second model in the Bavarian automaker's eco-friendly i-branded lineup. The i8's plug-in hybrid powertrain combines a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with a 96-kilowatt electric motor to make 357 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Together, this gas-electric mechanical duo is capable of propelling the groundbreaking carbon-fiber sports coupe from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.2 seconds.
Join Translogic host Jonathon Buckley as he heads to Santa Monica, CA for a chance to drive the all-new BMW i8.
